Hi, I'm Dora Moreira, a University Recruiter at WWT. As the new school year begins, my team and I will be heading to college campuses and career events around the U.S. to chat with current students and professionals about career opportunities at World Wide Technology. We're sharing some best practices and helpful tips about "ace the interview."

Research the company

Get a better understanding of the company's core values and their recent accomplishments. This information will give you the insight to see if this role aligns with your vision. A great place to do research is on the company's website. For example, to learn more about World Wide Technology, you can visit our Why WWT page. This gives you general information about who we are, what we do, our mission and vision, and a peek at our culture and values. Take notes on key points that resonate with you and think about how your skills and experiences align with the company's mission and values.

Look up the interviewer 

You can use resources like LinkedIn to find information about your interviewer. Research their current role at the company. Find Information including their prior roles and degrees. Use this information to ask tailored questions about their role, career, and the company during the interview.  

Prepare questions to ask 

Before the interview, you want to use your research (reference tips 1 & 2) to form questions to ask during the interview. Jot down questions that will give you a better understanding of the work you'll be doing if hired, the company culture and values, and the team dynamic. 

Some great example questions include:  

  • "In your experience, what is the best thing about working at World Wide Technology?"
  • "How does World Wide Technology stand out as an employer?" 
  • "What's a project that this team has completed that you're particularly proud of?" 

 

Practice, practice, practice 

They say "practice makes perfect" – we say practice helps make you confident and familiar with your points and answers. The best way to feel confident in your "elevator speech" is through repetition. Find the key takeaways you want to leave your interviewer with and practice with a career coach, mentor, or trusted friend. 

 

Send a thank you note 

After the interview, it's important to send a thank-you note or email within 48 hours. You can also use this time to discuss points that stood out to you and reaffirm the skills you'll bring to the company and team. Try an email template like this one to put it all into practice, but remember to make it your own!

Hello [Name of Recruiter/Hiring Manager],

Thanks again for the opportunity to interview with you for the [title of position applied] on [date].

It was great learning about [detail from the meeting], and I believe my [relevant, personal experience] would make me a great fit for [Company].

I would love to stay connected regarding a potential career with [Company] and look forward to hearing from you about the next steps in the interview process.

Thanks again for your time!

Tip: Remember to include your name, school, date of the meeting and a personal touch (e.g., remind them of something specific from your conversation) in the email.
