The Multi-Layer, Multi-Vendor Transport Network Evolution
Presenter: John Chiarini, Technical Solutions Architect, WWT
Date: Monday, June 3, 2024
Time: 10:45-11:15 AM PT
Location: Content Corner (Booth 4280)
Synopsis: Transport networks, comprised of optical and routing technologies, are typically built in silos. Optical has its own hardware, management and team managing it, as does routing. However, network operators are realizing substantial efficiencies in combining optical and routing technologies and managing them via one management system. Moreover, these networks are often built with multiple vendors, such as Cisco, for routing and a different optical vendor. We refer to these solutions as multi-layer, multi-vendor (MLMV).
Thankfully, Cisco is at the forefront of this evolution with the Routed Optical Network (RON) architecture and CrossWorks management suite.
To support the design of and migration to an MLMV environment, WWT has created the MLMV lab. This lab emulates a production transport network built with Cisco NCS-1000, NCS-2000 optical products, Cisco 400G ZR+ DWDM optics, and Cisco NCS-5000 routing equipment. In addition, we have incorporated various other vendors for an actual MLMV environment. All of which is operated and managed by Cisco CrossWork.
You'll leave this session with:
- An understanding of how a combined optical and routing network is built and operated.
- Information about the Cisco CrossWork suite tools used to operate and manage an MLMV environment.
- An overview of WWT's MLMV lab environment and our capabilities
