Ethernet is Rapidly Emerging as a Preferred Choice for AI Clusters
Justin Van Schaik, WWT Technical Solutions Architect, and Marina Ferriera, Cisco Principal Solutions Engineer
InfiniBand was initially developed to overcome Ethernet's limitations; however, advancements in Ethernet technology have significantly reduced the performance and reliability gap, allowing Ethernet to match InfiniBand in terms of bandwidth, latency and reliability with certain optimizations. While Infiniband will continue to be leveraged in certain ultra-demanding deployments, most current generative and inference AI workloads can be supported by Ethernet.
